Roma’s Europa League match against Shakhtar Donetsk tomorrow will be played behind closed doors.

It kicks off on Thursday at 17.55 GMT, the second leg in the Round of 16.

The hosts had hoped to play with at least some supporters in the stands, as in Ukraine the lockdown measures are not as strict as in Italy.

However, Sky Sport Italia report this evening that the local authorities decided it was wiser to play the game behind closed doors.

It’s not just COVID that was causing concerns, but also the threat of potential clashes between ultras linked with the two clubs.

These would be Roma fans coming over from Italy, but rather ones based in Ukraine.
