This set off alarm bells with the ASL (local health authority) in Milan, who ordered the Inter squad to suspend all activity until midnight on Sunday and remain in quarantine "given the high risk of circulation of more contagious viral variants," the ASL explains in a statement.
It adds: "a COVID 19 outbreak with an active viral transmission is ongoing within the team group."
The Serie A protocol states a game must go ahead if a team has at least 13 players available, including one goalkeeper, "unless the State or local authorities take different measures."
This is precisely the case of Inter.
The ASL blocked the entire group, which means the Nerazzurri have no players available and haven't used a 'free pass' they could have utilized to postpone a game for several cases.
