Reja rues Lazio defeat

Edy Reja feels Lazio “did not deserve to lose” their hard-fought game away to Catania, but the fight for third place now gets even more complicated.

“We knew this was going to be a difficult match,” sighed the Coach after their 1-0 defeat in Sicily.

“We created many chances, but weren’t clinical enough in attack. We did better compared to previous performances and were only beaten by an unlucky incident.

“Considering what we saw on the field, we didn’t deserve to lose. We do have to do better in converting our opportunities and it’s a shame Miroslav Klose had the sun in his eyes for a great chance, as the game could’ve changed with our goal.

“Unfortunately Juan Pablo Carrizo performed a couple of decisive saves, above all on Andre Dias. The only thing we lacked was a little more concentration on Nicola Legrottaglie’s goal.

“Last Sunday we deserved to lose, but not this time, as Catania didn’t put us under so much pressure.”

Now the race for third is wide open, as Udinese and Napoli go head-to-head tonight while Roma take on Genoa tomorrow.

“There is a long way to go for the Champions League and we are still in the running despite two consecutive defeats. I think third place will be decided by the head-to-head results.”
