Fiorentina 'champagne' at Corvino exit

Riccardo Montolivo’s agent says “sane-minded people should get out the champagne” after news Fiorentina are axing Pantaleo Corvino.

It was announced this evening that the director will not renew his contract once it expires in June, having been in Florence since 2005.

“After this news, all sane-minded people should get out the champagne,” declared agent Carlo Pallavicino on Radio Blu.

“A new era begins for Fiorentina and they can finally start to bring in players without exclusions. Too many mistakes have been made, especially as the Della Valle brothers put their money on the wrong horse.

“We have shaken off a problem that had been afflicting Fiorentina for years. I am very optimistic about the future, as the Della Valle brothers will become fond of the Viola again.

“As of tonight, it is a free nation. We must not let this club fall away.”

Corvino had become increasingly unpopular among the Viola fans, who blamed him for the lack of big names arriving at the club and departure of stars such as Alberto Gilardino.

Montolivo’s agent had particular problems with the director, as negotiations broke down over a contract renewal.

It means Montolivo will be able to leave Tuscany as a free agent in the summer.
