Former Juventus striker Marco Borriello said Andrea Pirlo should have started with the Under-23 squad. ‘It’s his only mistake’.

The 38-year-old, who retired in January after a stint at UD Ibiza, played with Pirlo at both Milan and Juventus and was asked about the difficult situation at the Allianz Stadium.

Rumours suggest Pirlo’s job is uncertain, as Juventus are out of the Champions League and fight to qualify for the competition in Serie A.

Rumours suggest Pirlo’s job is uncertain, as Juventus are out of the Champions League and fight to qualify for the competition in Serie A.

But Borriello said he has only made one mistake so far and that was to accept the job as Maurizio Sarri’s successor.

“The only mistake he made was last summer,” Borriello told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “It’s true that when the Old Lady calls, it’s difficult to say no.

“But, if I had been Pirlo, I would have taken a step back and started with the Under-23 squad. It’s his only mistake.”
