Sinisa Mihajlovic once again complains that Bologna don’t convert their chances after a 1-0 defeat to Inter, but also slams Japan for using Takehiro Tomiyasu against Mongolia.

The Rossoblu had won two on the bounce going into this game, but despite having more possession, they were wasteful and Romelu Lukaku took his chance.

“We’ve known for a while that we don’t take our chances. We had so many opportunities tonight where it was easier to score than miss, yet we missed all four, then they converted half a chance,” the Bologna coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“If you don’t score goals, you won’t win games. I think we overall did better than Inter, we forced them to defend and counter, we pressed and caused them problems. I could not have asked for more in that sense.

“It’s been the same problem for two years. People always say, if you had a proper centre-forward, you might be in Europe. Someone who’d score 15 goals per season, not even 20… I don’t know if we would’ve played better or worse, but we probably would’ve had more points.

“My lads had their game, we dominated possession, pushed them into their own half and Inter barely had opportunities. Unfortunately, we don’t score goals.”

Mihajlovic raised some question marks over his future at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

“I am a coach, my job is to train, it’s not as if I can go out there and take free kicks myself. I am not the one who sets the objectives. I am an ambitious coach, but the club makes its decisions and we’ll see at the end of the season who stays and who goes.

“I am happy anywhere, as long as I enjoy myself and work. As always, ambitious people want something more, but it’s also about what the club wants to do. I have another two years on my contract, I love Bologna, I get along with the fans, the club and the players, so that’s not an issue.

“Now we’ll try to end the season, get as many points as possible and play well, then we’ll see what happens.”

Mihajlovic was furious when Takehiro Tomiyasu went off with a muscular problem and was heard shouting: ‘Why did he have to play against Mongolia?!’

It was a reference to the midweek international played by Japan, a frankly futile 14-0 victory.

“They are winning 14-0, what do you need Tomiyasu for? It’s about respect for clubs, they don’t need to play against Mongolia… I could’ve played against Mongolia and done just as well. Now we have a fundamental player who is injured.”
