Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is doubtful for the first leg of the quarter-finals against former club Roma in the Europa League.
The Dutch goalkeeper, who spent two years between 2011 and 2013 at the Giallorossi, had to stop during warm-up ahead of the Eredivisie match against Heerenveen.
The veteran was initially included in the starting line-up but forfeited the match due to a knee injury.
The Netherlands Under-21 goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen stepped up and made his debut in the Dutch League, his second appearance in the first team.
Scherpen could make his debut in Europe if Stekelenburg fails to recover in time for the match against Roma – given the one-year disqualification of Andre Onana for doping.
