Claudio Ranieri said Fabio Quagliarella is Sampdoria’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and explained why he hugged Gigio Donnarumma at halt-time.
Quagliarella scored his 10th goal in 2020-21 and continues to contribute at 37 for the Blucerchiati, but his contract expires this summer.
“I think he’s one of the best goalscorers of all time,” Ranieri told Radio Anch’io Sport. “An immense player, a true captain.
“They asked me about Ibrahimovic ahead of the match against Milan, I said that he’s our Ibra and he fully demonstrated it at San Siro.”
At half-time of the 1-1 draw between Samp and the Diavolo, Ranieri and Milan goalkeeper Donnarumma hugged, and the coach explained why.
“He was back there asking for fouls, free kicks and yellow cards,” Ranieri said. “From the bench, I yelled at him: ‘We’ll give you the whistle!’
“Then at the end of the first half we hugged and made up.”
