Chris Smalling and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are expected to miss the Europa League quarter-final when Roma take on Ajax, but there is some good news.

The first leg is in Amsterdam on Thursday evening.

According to the latest reports from the Corriere dello Sport, Smalling will not make the trip to Holland, as he is still nowhere near fit after a season full of injuries.

Mkhitaryan’s odds of being included are said to be just 10 per cent.

The positive news for coach Paulo Fonseca is that Jordan Veretout and Bryan Cristante have fully recovered and should be in the starting XI.

Edin Dzeko is said to be the favourite rather than Borja Mayoral to lead the line.
