Rick Karsdorp is suspended for the first leg in Amsterdam, while Stephan El Shaarawy and Marash Kumbulla are out too.

Veretout is back in the middle, whilst Dzeko should be supported by Pedro Rodriguez and Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Former Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is in doubt and youngster Kjell Scherpen has to be ready.

Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag must cope without defender Daley Blind too, as the former Manchester United full-back twisted his ankle during international duty with Holland.

Ajax are unbeaten in 24 games, having won seven on the bounce since a 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven on February 28.

Ajax (probable): Scherpen; Rensch, Timber, Martinez, Tagliafico; Klaassen, Alvarez, Gravenberch; Antony, Tadic, Neres

Roma (probable): Pau Lopez; Mancini, Cristante, Ibanez; Bruno Peres, Villar, Veretout, Spinazzola; Pellegrini, Pedro; Dzeko

Referee: Karasev (RUS)
