The 28-year-old has contributed two goals and two assists in his 18 games with the Grifone and is enjoying a good season after having struggled to convince at Chelsea and Roma in recent years.

Zappacosta said the match against Juventus is ‘very stimulating’ but claimed Genoa always ‘work hard regardless of the opponent’.

“There’s enthusiasm, but we can’t let the intensity drop even for a moment, otherwise we will struggle,” Zappacosta told Sky Sport Italia.

“The match against Juventus is certainly very stimulating, but at the same time difficult. We prepare for it like all the other games, working hard regardless of the opponent.

“We have enthusiasm and in the last days before the game we will try to prepare ourselves in the best possible way.”

Zappacosta has experienced a great season with the Rossoblu.

“To be in form individually we need the whole team and now we are going through a good moment,” he continued.

“At the beginning of the season, due to some injuries and COVID, I was out for several months and I was very sorry I couldn’t help the team.

“I’m happy to be back and give my best. We must continue on this path.”

Zappacosta will come up against one of the wingers in best shape at the moment and looks forward to playing against Italy winger Federico Chiesa.

“Chiesa is a player who is doing very well, he’s confident and has a great personality,” Zappacosta added. “He’s very dangerous, but we can’t just think of one single player.

“They have a squad of great champions and we must be careful to contain the whole team. We can only achieve a good result through teamwork.”

Zappacosta admitted he hopes for a call-up by Roberto Mancini for Euro 2020 this summer.

“I think the national team is the dream of all the players,” he said. “Of course, I think about it, but right now I’m focused on Genoa.

“We have a target to be achieved and I know that a possible call-up can only come through daily work. I’m 100 per cent focused on what I have to every day and if Mancini’s call should arrive, I would be very happy.”
