Vincenzo Italiano admits it wasn’t Spezia’s best game, but they ‘never gave up’ and managed to beat Crotone 3-2.

This was arguably Spezia’s worst performance of the season, yet they managed to turn it around in stoppages to go from 2-1 down to win 3-2.

“We never gave up, because going 2-1 down could’ve killed anyone, but instead we ended up winning. Crotone play good football, they have some quality players and winning this game means a lot to us,” Italiano told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are too unpredictable and naïve, so we cannot say we are safe yet. These are three very useful points, but there’s a lot of work to be done still.

“There were a lot of spaces and we didn’t move the ball as quickly as usual. There are other elements too, such as determination, pride and fighting to take three points even when not being beautiful.

“These can happen over the course of a campaign, for example the time we hit the woodwork four times with Parma and they equalised at the end.”

Italiano went onto the pitch after the final whistle and whispered something to a clearly upset Junior Messias.

“I told him we were both in Serie D a few years ago, so we need to enjoy and make the most of our moment in Serie A. He’s a great player and I think he has a bright future ahead of him.”
