Deulofeu announces knee surgery

Gerard Deulofeu reveals he tore his meniscus and will need surgery, meaning his season with Udinese is practically over.

The Spain international made the statement via social media this evening.

“On the 17th February I’ve torn my internal meniscus during a training session,” wrote the former Watford man.

“We’ve tried everything until today to come back onto the pitch without the need of surgery: from resting without medications to injections to let me play the last few games, etc.

“Sure that it would have worked, but it didn’t. We accept this with disappointment, as I physically feel well, the feelings I had before this happened were wonderful, but unfortunately there is no remedy to this so we have to look ahead again, we’ll do all that is in our hands to come back asap (without excluding the possibility that this might even happen this season) and stronger than ever in order to overcome another obstacle, with a positive attitude and with joy.”

The 27-year-old has made 15 competitive appearances for Udinese this season, with two goals and two assists.
