Leonardo Pavoletti ‘felt like I was in the abyss at 3-1 down,’ but Cagliari clawed their way to a 4-3 victory over Parma. ‘We needed this to prove it to ourselves.’
This was a showdown between two of the bottom three, knowing the loser would likely be doomed to relegation into Serie B.
The Sardinians were trailing for almost the entire match, but equalised at the 91st and won 4-3 at the 94th with Alberto Cerri’s header.
“I felt like I was in the abyss at 3-1 down, it was so tough, but we are a tough team and we fought our way back up,” Pavoletti told DAZN with what remained of his voice.
“We’ve got a lot of problems, but we’re a real team, we’ve got heart and we want to secure safety.
“I am so happy for Albertone, who deserved to slap that goal in. The cross was Gaston Pereiro was like a work of art. We all deserve it, as we are a great side and fought so hard.
“Many people try to pass the buck, but not us, we stick together and we know there’s a lot more that we need to do. Perhaps we needed this comeback to prove to ourselves that we are strong and we can do this.”
