Figo: 'ESL a greedy and callous move'

Former Inter forward Luis Figo said the European Super League ‘is anything but Super’ and criticises the ‘greedy and callous move’.

The world of football reacts after 12 clubs – including Juventus, Milan and Inter - decided to break away and create the European Super League.

The former Portugal international claims the founding clubs of the competition are ‘greedy’ and predicts a ‘disaster for our grassroots and the wider football community’.

“This so-called Super League is anything but Super,” Figo wrote on Twitter. “This greedy and callous move would spell disaster for our grassroots, for women’s football, and the wider football community.

“Only to serve self-interested owners, who stopped caring about their fans long ago, and complete disregard for sporting merit. Tragic.”
