Juventus President Andrea Agnelli claims he didn't know about Luis Suarez's Italian citizenship exam: 'Fabio Paratici was in charge of the deal.'

The Serie A giants were in talks to sign the former Barcelona forward last summer but Suarez needed to obtain Italian citizenship as Juventus had already filled their spots for non-EU players.

Suarez did take the exam at the University of Perugia, but it emerged he had known the questions in advance.

The University for Foreigners in Perugia was already under investigation for passing students too easily, which is why their phones were wiretapped when Suarez arrived to take his test.

Andrea Agnelli was among those interviewed by Italian authorities and Repubblica.it published part of the interrogation.

"Paratici was in charge of the deal, we were in talks to sign [Edin] Dzeko at that time," Agnelli reportedly said.

"I remember [Juventus vice president] Pavel Nedved told me Suarez had offered himself to Juve with a text message.

"We were in talks with several footballers, Dzeko, Milik, Cavani and Morata, who eventually signed for Juventus. At the beginning of September, I was informed that signing Suarez would have been difficult because he needed an Italian passport," the President continued.

Suarez had revealed he had reached an agreement with Juventus before taking the exam, was Agnelli informed about the striker's contract?

"I don't remember that mail. However, I do not deal with the contractual conditions as the negotiations are followed by the sports area within the limits of the budget," he replied.

"I checked now and found that the email had been sent, however I still do not remember receiving it.

“I don’t remember I was informed about the exam. I knew about it from papers and I remember I called the player once to thank him for being so out in the open.”

Suarez eventually joined Atletico Madrid, while Juventus signed Morata on loan from the Colchoneros.
