Vincenzo Montella’s Catania are flying high and the Coach reveals he was almost Walter Mazzarri’s assistant manager at Napoli.

The Elefantini have shocked everyone this season by being in the top seven, on level terms with Inter and just six points adrift of the Partenopei.

“The result against Napoli is not as important as the performance, as far as I am concerned. I asked the lads not to take their foot off the accelerator, because I will not see lack of concentration,” said native Neapolitan Montella.

“I am not thinking about Europe, so it’s irrelevant to me what the cut-off point for getting into those competitions is. I am focused only on doing well against Napoli, who undoubtedly have the strongest attack in Serie A.

“I have had a good rapport with Walter Mazzarri for many years. I thank him for all he did for me at Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”29″>Sampdoria. He had once asked me to be his assistant manager, but I preferred to start from the Roma youth academy.”

Much has been said on Montella’s future, as he is tipped to take over Inter or even Napoli in the summer.

“There was too much talk on my future this week. It’s football, when you do well, then you get the attention of the media. I am pleased to read praise, but above all towards my team, because they deserve the credit for their hard work.”

Sergio Almiron is in doubt due to a fitness problem, while Marco Motta and David Suazo have been left at home.
