Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka is out for the rest of the season after having his tonsils removed.

The operation had been planned for several months after he was repeatedly laid low by tonsillitis.

He even had a procedure last month to drain a large abscess from his tonsils.

A statement on the Napoli website confirms Lobotka underwent a tonsillectomy yesterday and he will not be able to resume training for at least two weeks.

That means his season is effectively over.
