Former Juventus, Genoa, Sampdoria, Fiorentina and Brescia player Ruben Olivera announced he is retiring due to a cardiac irregularity.

Now 38, he had still been playing in Serie D with club Racing Aprilia.

“I will no longer play football and it is not entirely just my decision, as I was diagnosed with a cardiac problem three weeks ago,” the Uruguayan told the official Aprilia website.

“With the passion that I have for football, I don’t want to end it this way. This is why I have decided to begin a new career as a coach.”
