Italy legend Dino Zoff urges Gianluigi Donnarumma to remain at Milan and not ‘create more problems just for a better salary. What more does he need?’

The shot-stopper will be a free agent when his contract expires on June 30 and negotiations had already ground to a halt before director Paolo Maldini slammed the brakes entirely.

He did this to protect Donnarumma, who had been insulted by fans demanding he sit out the upcoming clash with Juventus unless he signed a new deal, so all talks have now been postponed until after the season has concluded.

“I don’t think I’m being too moralistic if I say that in his place, I wouldn’t want to create more problems just for a better salary,” Zoff told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He is young, has extraordinary quality and already plays for a big club. What more does he need? I don’t think it’s all about the Champions League either, because this was all being discussed even when Milan were top of the table.

“The world is Donnarumma’s oyster, he can do whatever he wants.”

Zoff also commented on the race for the top four, with Juventus, Milan, Atalanta, Napoli and Lazio all fighting for just three spots.

“I am confident Juve will finish in the top four, as they have more quality in their squad, which is why I think tomorrow Juve-Milan will above all be decisive for the Rossoneri.

“I think Andrea Pirlo will achieve his target and be confirmed at the helm. Juventus had so many changes to deal with, whereas Inter went out of Europe early and were able to focus entirely on Serie A.”
