Vincenzo Montella praised the “great show of character” from Catania to fight back from 2-0 down against Napoli.

The Elefantini looked to be beaten at the San Paolo, but two late goals snatched an impressive 2-2 draw.

“There were so many dangers in this match and I think within the game there were many tiny games,” said the Coach.

“In the first half we kept the ball well and allowed Napoli hardly anything. After the break we conceded against the run of play and then quickly went 2-0 down.

“We reacted strongly and were able to claw back an equaliser in a very difficult stadium against an excellent team. The performance was not our best, but it was a great show of character.”

Montella concedes Catania’s set piece specialists were behind the fightback at the San Paolo.

“Now Catania have scored more than half our goals from set plays. It is our characteristic and once again today my players showed they are very good at these situations.

“It’s true we waste some chances, as the strikers work hard for the team and therefore aren’t as sharp when it comes to finishing.

“I had predicted Davide Lanzafame would score before he came off the bench, so that’s why he ran towards me when celebrating.”
