Stefano Pioli explains his inspired tactical change to get the best out of Brahim Diaz was only a consequence of wanting to move Hakan Calhanoglu.

Since introducing Brahim Diaz to the starting XI over the last two games, the Rossoneri have been transformed, beating Juventus 3-0 and Torino 7-0.

Brahim Diaz has contributed to four goals in those two starts, scoring three and assisting one.

However, Pioli reveals the Spaniard’s spectacular form in the trequartista role was only a consequence of a different decision.

Brahim Diaz has contributed to four goals in those two starts, scoring three and assisting one.

However, Pioli reveals the Spaniard’s spectacular form in the trequartista role was only a consequence of a different decision.

“Brahim is doing very well, but I chose him there because I wanted to move Calhanoglu to the left, that way we would have more protection and be more solid down that flank,” the coach told Milan TV.

“For example, against Benevento we had done very well on the ball, not so much when we lost possession. Believe me: that was the most important decision.”

Calhanoglu had until then been in a central role behind the striker, with Rafael Leao or Ante Rebic tending to play on the left of that supporting trio.

The Rossoneri needed more protection on the left so that full-back Theo Hernandez can push forward, scoring two goals against Torino.
