Daniele Bonera notes it was “inevitable” the Milan defence would be under pressure against Barcelona, “but qualification is still wide open.”

The 0-0 first leg draw in the Champions League quarter-final was a marvellous defensive performance from the Rossoneri, especially as they were missing Thiago Silva and Ignazio Abate.

“It was inevitable we would be under pressure and we had the ball more in defence than in attack, but we did well, qualification is still wide open and that was our objective,” said Bonera.

“On Tuesday we will try to put in another great performance. We know that we have to go there and try to score goals. It won’t be easy, but with unity of intent we will make up for the absentees.”

Bonera played as a right-back this evening, whereas he took the central defensive role against Roma on Saturday.

“I just like playing! With my characteristics, I think I’m better in the middle of the defence. Do I have a chance at the Euro 2012 squad? I just intend to stay in good shape and play consistently, then the rest will follow.”
