Cagliari chief Massimo Cellino has admitted that he made a mistake in sacking Massimo Ficcadenti earlier this season.

The former Cesena boss was axed in November and replaced by Davide Ballardini, before Cellino recalled him at the beginning of March.

“I made a grave error in sacking Ficcadenti,” the Rossoblu owner told L’Unione Sarda. “I admitted that publically when I made the decision to re-appoint him.

“I was influenced by silly claims that he was too defensive, but instead Ficcadenti actually made the right decisions.

“The dismissal of Ballardini? He represents the past and I don’t want to talk about that.”

Cagliari beat Cesena 3-0 in Ficcadenti’s first game back before last week’s late 1-0 loss at Lazio” data-scaytid=”26″>Lazio. They face Atalanta” data-scaytid=”27″>Atalanta next.
