Clarence Seedorf was left fuming after last night’s 3-1 loss to Barcelona. “I’d rather lose 7-1 than like this,” said the Milan man.
The Spanish giants booked their place in the last four of the Champions League on Tuesday, but the Dutchman was unhappy with the decision to award a penalty against Alessandro Nesta.
“I asked the referee for clarification about the penalty and his answer was a yellow card,” the Dutchman told Sky Sport Italia.
“I asked him again after the game and he told me that the players were holding each other before. That angered me.
“I’d prefer to lose 7-1 than like this. Although we didn’t lose because of that penalty, it changed the psychological aspect of the game.”
Following the 0-0 draw at San Siro, Milan were briefly looking good for qualification after Antonio Nocerino made it 1-1 in Spain before that contentious penalty.
“We played both games by giving everything,” he continued. “It’s a shame as we could have done a bit more in the home leg.”
Seedorf’s contract will expire in the summer and last night’s game could have been his last in the Champions League for the Diavolo.
“We still have the League to play for,” he added. “Then, at the end of the season, we’ll see what the future holds.”
