Stefano Fiore is convinced that Italy will make the right sort of impact at the 2012 European Championship.

The Azzurri won’t go into the tournament as one of the favourites, but the former international midfielder is optimistic.

“Italy are a new and young side,” he told Radio Sportiva. “Boss Cesare Prandelli has transmitted his idea of football and the team have an identity.

“Spain and Germany are ahead of us and they’ll be the favourites. However, Prandelli has recreated enthusiasm after the World Cup flop.

“I’m certain that we’ll leave a good impression.”

Fiore, an ex-player with Udinese, Lazio and Fiorentina, came within seconds of winning Euro 2000 with Italy.

The Azzurri were leading France in the Final with just minutes left, only for their opponents to equalise late on and then grab a Golden Goal.

Fiore won 38 caps for his country, scoring two goals in the process.
