The Italy and Villarreal star had suffered the same injury to his right knee six months ago, but on the eve of his comeback ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament again during a training session.

His agent made no secret of the fact they blame Villarreal’s doctors for the setback and this time opted to have the surgery in Colorado’s Steadman clinic.

“Operation went well. Thank God,” wrote Rossi on his Twitter account this morning.

The forward will be out for another six months, therefore missing Euro 2012.
