Catania Coach Vincenzo Montella pats himself on the back for taking a massive risk with debutant goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano.

As Juan Pablo Carrizo is suspended, everyone expected Tomas Kosicky to take the gloves in last night’s 2-0 win over Atalanta, but instead 22-year-old Terracciano was given his Serie A debut.

“I had already considered using him in the past, but was frightened of doing damage, seeing as he had only ever played in Lega Pro,” revealed Montella.

“I felt a bit more courageous this weekend and he repaid my faith in him with a very good performance, including an excellent save.

“That was pretty much the only dangerous Atalanta opportunity, in fact, and Terracciano dealt with it brilliantly.

“I think Catania showed spirit of sacrifice and read the game well. All the lads gave their contribution and show they perhaps deserve more playing time than they have had in the past, as we were in an emergency situation.”
