Campedelli, however, has looked to take a positive from the long-anticipated event, praising the fans for their applauding of the players at the end of the match.

“I was extremely proud for the applause at the end that greeted the team at the end of the game,” Campedelli stated in a Press release on Thursday.

“Our fans have noticed how hard and with dignity the team faced this season finale and to want to reward that with their gesture is, for me, as good as a victory.

“There is much talk in the media for unpleasant episodes fans can cause, but there is not enough when, on the contrary, they are responsible for events ‘extraordinary’ for Italians.

“To many it may seem trivial, but yesterday, once again, I felt proud and rewarded for the many sacrifices made to create our comfortable and beautiful stadium, where each Cesena fan can feel at home.”
