However, the player and his agent met Nerazzurri officials on Thursday where the club tabled their proposal.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Beneamata have offered the 31-year-old a two-year contract, with the option for a third, worth €2m a campaign.

The former Roma and Ajax man, signed in 2007, will now have about 10 days to consider his options ahead of a new meeting with the club.

The left-back, who prefers to be used as a centre-back, has been linked with outfits such as Napoli and Manchester City.
