Bortolo Mutti concedes he’s going into his last games on the Palermo bench. “I worked well here and I thank everyone.”

The Coach was drafted in after Stefano Pioli and Devis Mangia were sacked, but President Maurizio Zamparini has made it clear he won’t be needed beyond the end of the season.

“I am convinced that I worked well here amid situations of uncertainty where the only permanent figure was the President,” said Mutti.

“We lost a few points towards the end of the campaign, but achieved our objective of safety. There were four very good months and we managed to navigate choppy waters with calm and keeping the team competitive even in emergency situations.

“We are happy with what we have achieved in a transitional year, but one that could also have been very risky. I’m proud that we managed to recover some players who had been a little abandoned.

“I thank everyone at Palermo. As for the future, my staff and I worked well and if we do not stay here then we will go elsewhere.”

The Sicilians welcome Chievo to the Stadio Barbera on Sunday afternoon.
