“We have to congratulate Juventus because they had a great season and they grew Sunday after Sunday,” the veteran midfielder stated. “We really have to take our hats off to them.

“We were penalised by a lot of injuries that I can’t explain the reason for and we didn’t have the same mentality as they had.

“This Milan squad is a little old and reinforcements are always needed – even when you win.”

Many of the side’s ageing stars are coming towards the end of their contracts, including the 34-year-old Gattuso who has missed most of the season with an eye problem.

“I’ll speak to Vice-President Adriano Galliani about my future,” added the former Rangers and Salernitana man.

“It’s been an odd season for me, but I still want to play. If that isn’t possible then I’ll stay at home with my kids and be a dad.

“It’s not important for me to have a contract, I just need to feel alive.”
