Van Bommel, who returns to the side he spent six years earlier in his career, confirmed over the weekend the rumours that he would be leaving Milan at the end of the season when his contract expired.

With the Rossoneri’s campaign now ended, the 35-year-old tough-tackling midfielder, who won a Scudetto and Supercoppa Italiana with Milan in an 18-month spell, has completed his move back to PSV.

“This is deal we have been working on for a very long time,” confirmed technical director Marcel Brands in confirming the news on the Dutch side’s official website.

“We are please to have finally succeeded in signing such an internationally experienced player, with a great history at PSV and who is also the captain of the national team.”
