Marco Cassetti has revealed why he was so rarely used by boss Luis Enrique at Roma during this season.

The veteran made 32 Serie A appearances in 2010-11, but was limited to just seven games and 428 minutes of action this time around.

“There was no problem with the Coach,” the former Lecce player told Radio Mana Mana. “We always had a good relationship.

“The fact was that he didn’t think that I was a right-back, he always considered me as a central defender instead.

“I don’t know why. You’ll have to ask him that. He just thought I would do better in the middle of the defence.”

Cassetti’s capital stint looks to be over given that his contract will expire at the end of next month.

“There is no meeting planned with Roma,” he added. “I would have liked to have stayed for another season, but nothing has been planned.”

The club’s stance may change depending on who they hire to replace the Spaniard. Catania’s Vincenzo Montella, who Enrique took over from last summer, is the current favourite.
