“The response of the tests showed improvements for both, even if obviously they are not 100 per cent yet and it’ll take a few more days to see further changes,” said chief medic Professor Enrico Castellacci.

“I outlined the situation to Cesare Prandelli and he seemed relaxed. Obviously it’s up to him to decide on the final group of 23 players.

“The tests were originally meant to be on Monday, but that is a packed day and it wouldn’t have made much difference, so we anticipated them to today.”
