Mauro Zarate has warned Inter he is “very happy” to rejoin Lazio. “I left because of Edy Reja, but if Vladimir Petkovic wants me…”

The striker is still owned by the Biancocelesti, but moved to San Siro last summer on loan and it’s not yet clear if he’ll make the transfer permanent.

“My situation is clear, as I belong to Lazio,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.

“If a team wants me, then we’ll talk about it. If President Claudio Lotito intends to keep me, then that’s fine with me and I’d be very happy.

“I would return to Lazio and try to give my best. We also have to see what Lotito thinks about this, as we can’t really discuss it now. I am focusing on my vacation and relaxing at this moment.

“I left Lazio because of Reja. I didn’t get on with the Coach. The best option for everyone at that time was a transfer to Inter.

“It didn’t go well, though. Everything went wrong and it was a bad season for everyone here, not just me. Aside from Diego Milito, who scored a hatful of goals, almost all of us did not play to our true potential.

“With three different Coaches it was a strange campaign, but that’s over now and we have to begin again. I want to get back to playing football and having fun.”

This morning Lazio announced Bosnian tactician Petkovic, who favours the 3-4-3 system, is their new Coach.

“I can certainly say Petkovic proposes a more attacking style of football for Lazio, so I think he can do well. If he wants me…

“The fans know what I’m like, both good and bad. Perhaps the Lazio fans know me better than I do! I remember so many people I met in the street and we’d chat about anything, so they were like friends.”
