Catania have confirmed that Coach Vincenzo Montella is leaving them after a year in charge, with Fiorentina waiting to talk to him.

Reports earlier on Monday indicated that the young tactician, who has been heavily linked with a number of managerial roles for next season, had met with the club’s leadership and agreed to part company.

That has now been confirmed by the Rossazzurri, via a statement released on their official website.

“Catania announce that it has agreed in principle to the termination of the relationship with the Coach Vincenzo Montella. The coming days will be useful to refine the agreements and understanding we have reached.”

Should Montella make the move north to Fiorentina as expected, he will be the second Catania Coach in recent seasons to do so, after Sinisa Mihajlovic similarly did in summer 2010.

Pasquale Marino, who was responsible for taking Catania back into Serie A in 2006, is linked with a return to the Sicilian outfit in place of Montella.
