Roma have dismissed suggestions that they will consider making an offer to sign Villarreal’s injured Giuseppe Rossi.

The Italian international, who will be out until March because of knee ligament damage, has been paired with the capital club following his side’s relegation from La Liga.

“To be honest, we are talking about something that makes little sense,” director general Franco Baldini told Sky Sport Italia.

“Unfortunately he has picked up an injury which will see him sidelined for some time and will require a further operation.

“He would return to action in March in the best case scenario, so what credibility would there be in such a swoop?

“He was of interest to us before he was sidelined, but everything would have to be re-examined now. We can not say that he is a market objective.”

A fully-fit Rossi, who has missed out of Euro 2012, could be seen as a suitable attacker in new Roma boss Zdenek Zeman’s 4-3-3 system.
