The notoriously fiery patron has been through numerous tacticians over his career, including three in the 2011-12 season alone.

He appointed ex-Siena boss Sannino this week and assured this time it would be different.

“I hope Sannino can last for five years. If I get rid of him early, then I deserve the sack instead,” Zamparini told Rai Sport.

“Sannino had a fantastic campaign with Siena and I watched him under a microscope. He brought good football and enthusiasm.

“Palermo need Sannino and he is proud to be here with us.”

The President also commented on players whose futures are up in the air, such as Fabrizio Miccoli and Matias Silvestre.

“With Miccoli we adjourned our meeting for 10 days. I was pleased to hear he wants to stay at Palermo, if possible.

“Silvestre wants to leave, so did Miccoli at first, but he has changed his mind and so we’ll see what happens.”
