Stroppa: 'Pescara, forget Zeman!'

New Pescara Coach Giovanni Stroppa is proud to carry on the work of his mentor, but at the same time warns “we must forget Zdenek Zeman immediately.”

The tactician was chosen precisely because he worked with Zeman at Foggia and Avellino, so can continue the attacking and fast-paced approach that got Pescara promoted to Serie A.

“I am stepping into some very big shoes, but it is an advantage being able to continue the work started by Zeman,” said Stroppa in his presentation press conference.

“They had an extraordinary campaign together. However, I am also certain that everyone has to give a precise identity to their style of football. In that sense, we must forget Zeman immediately.”

Zeman left Pescara in order to take over at Roma, returning to a club he parted from 13 years ago.

This is a big step up for 44-year-old Stroppa, whose management career to date has only seen him work for the Milan youth team and Lega Pro side Sudtirol-Alto Adige.

“These fans deserve great results. My way of training at Sudtirol brought unexpected results and we did great work that I want to repeat here at Pescara.

“Even if we are playing in Serie A, we must face all opponents with an attacking intent, pushing forward our style of football and trying to defend as a unit.

“I have worked for some of the greatest Coaches on the international stage. I think that I took something from all of them, if you’d excuse the arrogance, and if I had the opportunity to bring at least one of those elements then I’d be a phenomenon!

“I think it is crucial to change tactical system based on the requirements of each game. Antonio Conte proved that with Juventus. In my past I started with the 4-3-3 then moved to 4-2-3-1, but the approach and development of the football does not change.”
