Gago earns €3.7m from Real and although Roma paid half throughout his loan, they can’t afford to finance a permanent deal. Inter may also be reluctant to pay Gago a similar wage, but could offer him a way out of the Bernabeu.

Real bought the 26-year-old for €25m, but their keenness to offload him might tempt the Nerazzurri into making a bid.
