Former Lazio captain Giuliano Giannichedda is surprised with the club’s decision to appoint Vladimir Petkovic as Coach.

The Bosnian has signed a two-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico after Edy Reja took the opportunity to quit the capital last month.

“It was a real surprise appointment given the names that were being mentioned for the post,” the former midfielder told Lazio Style Radio.

“I’m curious to see how he does as I don’t really know too much about him.

“I’m also hoping to get the chance to watch him in training at Formello so that I can understand his methods and mentality.”

Reja quit the club after what he felt was excessive pressure from the fans and Giannichedda feels the new tactician may have the same problem.

“Rome is a difficult place to work,” continued the former Juventus” data-scaytid=”17″>Juventus man. “A lot is expected and rightly so given the history of Lazio.

“Now let us wait and see what the club do on the transfer market in the hope that the base of the team remains the same as the one from this season.”

The Biancocelesti just missed out on qualification for the Champions League in May.
