Catania have presented new Coach Rolando Maran and signed Amidu Salifu from Fiorentina. “It was impossible to turn this chance down.”

Maran replaces new Fiorentina boss Montella and came so close to promotion when Varese lost the play-off final with Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”12″>Sampdoria last week.

“Being here is a dream come true and I couldn’t believe it when I stepped in to the Torre del Grifo training ground,” said Maran.

“Catania represent an important opportunity, the apex of my career. Even if I only finished the season with Varese three days ago, I can’t wait to get started again.

“It was impossible to turn this chance down and I consider it a reward for all the hard work I’ve done so far. I don’t think I came late to Serie A, as if I am here now then it means I earned it.”

Maran turns 49 tomorrow and is honoured to take over from Montella.

“Tactically I think it’s important not to get fossilized into a single system. I used the 4-4-2 at Varese, but had already considered a 4-3-3, which of course is a strong tradition at Catania. It would be crazy of me to change the system here when their identity is so clear.

“I believe in attacking football that gives you the courage to make mistakes.”

Meanwhile, Catania have officially signed midfielder Salifu from Fiorentina on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Salifu was included as a ‘sweetener’ so the Elefantini would release Montella.
