Ireland assistant manager Marco Tardelli insists they will play “for pride” and not make it easy for Italy in the last Group C game.

The Republic are already eliminated from Euro 2012 after two consecutive defeats, while the Azzurri must win and hope Spain-Croatia doesn’t end 2-2 in order to qualify.

“It is a decisive match for us as well as them,” assured the assistant to Giovanni Trapattoni.

“We are playing to pick up points too, as we don’t want to finish the tournament on zero. We are playing for pride.

“Will Spain-Croatia end in a draw? That is not my problem.”

Italy have so far managed two 1-1 draws and must beat Ireland in order to have any hope of qualification.

“I have been impressed with Italy and seen them play well. In any case, we will not make any concessions,” concluded Tardelli.
