Andrea Barzagli says he and his Italy teammates are “not remotely considering the possibility we’ll be going home” on Monday night.

The Azzurri need to beat the Republic of Ireland and hope Spain-Croatia doesn’t end in a 2-2 draw in order to reach the Euro 2012 quarter-finals.

“I am not remotely considering the possibility we’ll be going home,” said Barzagli in his Press conference.

“We know that there is the chance, but we are not thinking about it. We only have to focus on winning our match against Ireland, then we’ll see what happens in Gdansk.

“If we do well and beat Ireland, then I am convinced we’ll get through to the next round.

“We don’t want to think about the permutations and what could happen afterwards, but if we do qualify for the quarter-finals then some important scenarios will open up for us.”

There has already been one huge upset, as Russia were knocked out last night when the Czech Republic and Greece qualified from Group A.
