Platini lauds Prandelli 'courage'

UEFA President Michel Platini praised Mario Balotelli and Cesare Prandelli’s “courage” in playing such attacking football.

Tonight’s Euro 2012 Final in Kiev is between Italy and Spain, two sides who are still unbeaten in the competition.

“Euro 2012 leaves behind an important economic and social patrimony for Ukraine and Poland, quality football and excellent refereeing,” Platini told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Prandelli showed courage, as he could’ve fielded four defenders in midfield, but instead chose Andrea Pirlo, Daniele De Rossi, Claudio Marchisio and Riccardo Montolivo. I really like his way of thinking.

“Balotelli is so strong. I saw him live for the first time here and he gave quality to Italy.”

However, Platini remains set against FIFA President Sepp Blatter in the debate over introducing goalline technology.

“I am absolutely against it. Look back to the ball that crossed the line in England-Ukraine – it was offside first. Was it right that technology should be the only thing deciding if it was a goal? And why not the offside? If we start down this path, we’ll never end.”
