No Italian faith in Verratti

As Marco Verratti remains just a step away from closing on a deal to join French side Paris Saint-Germain, his agent takes a swipe at Serie A.

The 19-year-old is on the verge of completing a €14m move to PSG this summer, which would see him net a reputed €1.8m a season on a four-year contract, but it is still yet to have gone through.

“We must wait a few more days for its completion,” agent Donato Di Campli told Radio Crc this afternoon. “Then, it’s up to us to decide definitively.”

However, it looks certain to be concluded with the player’s departure from Italy, which as Di Campli explained, was partly because of a lack of faith in interested Italian clubs to invest in him.

Pescara previously held negotiations with Juventus and Napoli for his sale, but could not agree a deal with either side.

“I want to accuse Italian clubs as being guilty of short-sightedness,” stated Di Campli.

“It is clear that young players find it difficult to establish themselves in Italian football, whether we’re discussing Lorenzo Insigne at Napoli or Verratti at any club.”
