Ezequiel Lavezzi has revealed that he once rejected the opportunity to possibly join Chelsea or Liverpool in order to stay at Napoli.

The Argentine has now quit the Italian outfit for Paris Saint-Germain, but he’s told Le Parisien that he could have left for England three years ago.

“It wasn’t the right time to leave Napoli in 2009,” the 27-year-old stated. “However, I realised last season that my cycle had come to an end.

“I am 27 now and if I had decided to wait any longer then it would have been too late for me. That is why I decided that I would go if an important offer arrived.”

Lavezzi, signed by the Azzurri in 2007, is believed to have cost the French capital outfit a transfer fee or around €30m.

“I was seduced by the PSG project and the chance to live in Paris,” he added. “I was also happy to end my stint at Napoli by winning the Italian Cup. There wasn’t a better way to go.”

PSG have raided Italian football again this summer after netting the Milan duo of Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as well as Pescara’s Marco Verratti.
