Cosmi: Yesterday was a bad day

Serse Cosmi has reflected on yesterday’s revelation that Siena could face a possible points penalty, but insists that his team are united as a front.

The Italian Football Federation confirmed on Thursday that the Tuscan outfit face trial accused of indirect responsibility in the betting and match-fixing scandal to have hit Serie A and B recently.

It is a charge that could see them hit with a points deduction to begin the 2012-13 Serie A campaign with.

Siena also see a number of former employees, including ex-Coach Antonio Conte, facing similar accusations this summer and current boss Cosmi admitted that it has ended the team’s pre-season training on a sour note.

“We have finished well, with great seriousness and application,” began the cap-wearing Coach to reporters.

“But it hasn’t been easy, because this is the last day of the training retreat and yesterday we had a bad day - many of the players were affected and this has shocked us all. We are united and this will make us stronger as a group, although this club has always had a great foundation.

“In our pre-season games so far there has been one constant of great defensive solidity. Waiting for competitive games to play, this is a mindset that we should not lose.”
