Palermo midfielder Nicolas Bertolo has apologised “to the police, the fans and the club” after he was arrested for drink-driving and attacking an officer.

The Argentine was stopped in the city streets when his BMW was seen driving erratically in the early hours of the morning. It’s then reported he attacked the police when they tried to give him a breathalyser test.

“I apologise to the police, the fans and the club,” he wrote in a statement on the Palermo website.

“I deeply regret what happened and it really is not representative of the kind of person I am. I can guarantee to all of you that similar incidents will never happen again.”

Palermo have stated they will take disciplinary action and ensure Bertolo does some work for the community as punishment.
